Studying Construction Around the World

Athens

Athens is great! We have been here for half of Sunday and 2 full days. The scenery is beautiful. Most of us can see the Acropolis from our room windows. The weather is sunny and breezy…so perfect. Sunday we just explored and enjoyed seeing Athens. Monday we went to the Acropolis for all of the morning. It was an amazing site to see. Monday afternoon we had free time to see whatever sites we were interested in. Today we also had free time, and tonight we are having a potluck dinner on the rooftop of our hotel. Each student is bringing something Greek.

Cairo

The entire group made it to Cairo with all of our luggage at about 10:30pm Cairo time. We have been very busy so far with everything! It has been amazing in Egypt.

Monday we went with Arab Contractors to visit a jobsite of a cigarette manufactorering plant. Additionally, Arab Contractors treated us to a large meal at their personal rowing club which is located directly on the Nile. Monday night we went to the Sound & Light Show at the Pyramids at Giza.

Tuesday we went to the Step Pyramid, the Bent Pyramid, and the Red Pyramid. We were able to go inside the Red Pyramid.  We also went to a carpet school, which is available for children to go and learn the trade of carpet weaving/making. This was very neat to see. Tuesday night we had the famous archaeologist Dr. Hawass make a wonderful presentation on some of his work. Dr. Hawass gave the group a wonderful gift: He has they ability to give anyone permission to visit major historical sites in Egypt. He handwrote a letter stating the group had permission to go inside the Great Pyramid, get into the gated private area of the Sphinx, and enter into the private archaeological site of the Tombs of the Workers. This was HUGE surprise to everyone!

Wednesday is what we did. We went to the Pryamids at Giza, and explored so much that no one typically gets to do. It was amazing!

Thursday we all had a free day, but were all required to go to the Cairo Museum, which was amazing. That afternoon we left for Luxor.
